Join us for a fun filled family day on the river May 11, 2024 from 9:00am-1:00pm at The Bullpasture Gorge
11499 Bullpasture River Road, McDowell VA
Virginia has become one of the most popular destinations on the east coast for freshwater fishing. With the wide variety of opportunities available to anglers of every skill level, it’s easy to understand why.
Highland County is home to some of the most remote locations in the state of Virginia and offers three rivers for public fishing – the Bullpasture, the Potomac, and Laurel Fork. The Bullpasture River offers easy access just steps away from the main road. The Highland Wildlife Management Area provides acres of outdoor recreation land with stocked trout supplied by the Department of Wildlife Resources.
Kids Fishing Day is a great opportunity to teach our youth how to fish the streams for trout, while also learning more about the environment.
Youth only, 14 and under, will be allowed to fish during this event. Adults may assist in baiting the hook, casting, and removing the fish from the hook, but cannot assist with setting the hook or retrieving the fish. Adults assisting youth are not required to have a fishing license during the event.
Volunteers will be available to assist in teaching how to bait, cast, hook, and cook freshly caught trout.
Lunch will be provided for all participants by The Highland County Recreation Commission.
We look forward to seeing you for a fun filled day on the river!
